Barend Pek, general manager of floating LNG at Shell Global Solutions, said this week that the pioneering project continues to move forward and that the concept was recently put through “an extensive series of tests” at the Marin facility in the Netherlands.
Using a model ship measuring eight metres long and weighing 4.5 tonnes, the tank tests simulated the equivalent of 18-metre waves, “almost a category five hurricane”, said Pek.
