Shell has added to its bounty in the Perdido foldbelt in the US Gulf of Mexico with a “significant” discovery at the Blacktip wildcat in the central part of the Alaminos Canyon area.

The probe has so far uncovered more than 400 feet of net oil pay with good reservoir and fluid characteristics, with drilling ongoing by Transocean drillship Deepwater Thalassa to deepen the well and further assess the structure’s potential, according to the Anglo-Dutch supermajor.
