Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell has plugged and abandoned its Fort Sumter well and moved the rig to start drilling the Leesburg prospect near the planned Appomattox development in the Jurassic-Norphlet play of the deep-water US Gulf of Mexico.
Shell filed for a permit in mid-February for “permanent abandonment” of the Fort Sumter well in Mississippi Canyon Block 566.
The seven-day operation was approved quickly and is said to have wrapped up early this month.
