Shell has chartered Dolphin Drilling’s semi-submersible rig Borgland Dolphin for one firm well, plus options for two more, at the Knarr field off Norway.

The contract, which firms up an earlier letter of intent, entails development drilling work at the North Sea field, with a fixed value of $15 million including mobilisation costs.

Work is due to start between February and May next year, with the 1977-built rig now being reactivated from warm-stacking ready to start on an initial contract with i3Energy off the UK in July or August this year.
