Shell is set to put fresh emphasis on deep-water oil and gas production in the years ahead following a three-year cost-cutting effort that is making complex offshore developments more simple and more resilient at low oil prices.

Andy Brown, upstream director at the Anglo-Dutch supermajor, said at the IP Week conference in London this week that work initiated since the start of the downturn to “simplify not optimise” is now paying off and making schemes more attractive.
