"Shell has stopped working on all the 26 oil shale blocks in Jilin," said a Jilin official in charge of the project, adding the blocks are still registered under Shell's name but will soon be relinquished.
He said the shale reserves were not of sufficient quality and not at the right depth for development, and Shell had therefore stopped work on the project about six months ago.
