Shell said it would suspend all further work on the proposed GTL plant, a 140,000-barrel-per-day facility that could have provided a direct avenue for the company to monetise gas produced from its regional shale acreage.
“We are making tough choices here, focusing our efforts and capital on the most attractive opportunities in our worldwide portfolio,” chief executive Peter Voser said.
The decision to shelve the project comes just over two months after Shell selected a site for the plant in Ascension Parish near Sorrento, Louisiana.
