Brazilian rig contractor Queiroz Galvao Oil & Gas (QGOG) has placed one of its rigs with Shell, as the Anglo-Dutch supermajor prepares to drill the pre-salt Gato do Mato prospect.
Shell selected the QGOG drillship Brava Star against competition from Seadrill and Ocean Rig. The drillship rolls off its contract with Petrobras in August
The day rate is not known, but QGOG is understood to have priced aggressively, reflecting the fact that the company has several rigs idle in Brazil and is part of a group that is facing debt-restructuring issues.
