Shell has been working in Brazil for 104 years but it is now shaping up for a new phase of expansion, writes Gareth Chetwynd.

The acquisition of BG Group means Shell is involved in 10 of the floating production, storage and offloading vessels operated by Petrobras in the pre-salt, operating two of its own in the Campos basin.

Shell’s Brazilian unit produced a net average of 325,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the first quarter, up from an average of 246,000 boepd in 2016.
