Mexican regulators have approved exploration plans covering the nine blocks won by Shell in the country’s second deep-water licensing round, preparing the stage for what is set to be the largest exploration programme by a single international deep-water operator since the country’s energy reforms.
The Anglo-Dutch supermajor was officially awarded the blocks in 2018, areas in which it committed to drill 13 wells, with operations to start as soon as December.
