Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell has started an exploration campaign in the South of Gato do Mato pre-salt area off Brazil, just days after it won a final drilling licence from environmental regulator Ibama.

Drilling of the Gato do Mato-3 well started on 26 June in 2067 metres of water with the Constellation Oil Services drillship Brava Star.

The well will be drilled to a final depth of approximately 5600 metres.
