Shell has opted to idle the drillship Don Taylor in the US Gulf of Mexico throughout the rest of its contract running to February 2019.
As of September the Anglo-Dutch supermajor will pay a dayrate of $420,000 for the 2013-built unit. The unit had been receiving a rate of $487,000 through August after beginning operations in 2013.
Rig contractor Noble said in a fleet status report that its "client has exercised a contractual right to idle the rig for the remainder of its contract, or 183 days ending 25 February 2019".
