The agreement, which was due be sealed in Oslo today, is the start of a long road towards some of the biggest field developments in northern Europe.
"Subsea compression offers a tremendous cost saving potential," FMC technology and business development manager Martin Sorensen said.
Statoil's Aasgard and Snohvit fields, as well as Norsk Hydro's Ormen Lange and Gazprom's Shtokman field, are all hot candidates for subsea gas compression.
