Sights set on meeting local content targets

EVER keen to lay out their track record in furthering Nigerian participation, international players came out in force last month with Chevron’s leading local content manager Aytokunbo Ehiribe outlining the success strategy, alongside Saipem and KBR, of dealing directly with community leaders and local governments to nurture local enterprises.

“At (the) Escravos (gas-to-liquids project) we set up welding schools and had up to 50 local enterprises at the plant. Plus, we got all 520 units of equipment owned by local content vehicles under lease-back agreements, which eventually should help them graduate to prime contractor status,” he said.

The Escravos GTL scheme is now 80% complete, with construction due to end by December 2012 and operations set to begin in 2013.
