Silver Run Acquisition II, the start-up company led by former Anadarko Petroleum chief executive Jim Hackett, has raised around $1 billion in an initial public offering of equities and could spark a surge from similar firms.

Houston-based Silver Run, which was formed with backing from private equity giant Riverstone, where Hackett signed on as a partner following his retirement from Anadarko in spring 2013, priced its IPO of 90 million units at $10 each, for gross proceeds of $900 million.
