Sinopec nears first-phase production at Yadavaran

THE southern end of the Ekteshaf (discovery) Road that bisects the South and North Azadegan oilfelds along Iran’s border with Iraq heads a short distance east and again turns southward at a crimp in the border to become the “discovery” axis of Yadavaran, another of the giant oilfields west of the Karun River.

Sinopec, part of the China National Petroleum Corporation-led group at North Azadegan, is 90% of the way to achieving first-phase production of 85,000 barrels per day. About 50,000 bpd are now being produced, with full output due in December.

“The master development plan for the second phase has been submitted and we are now waiting for commercial arrangements,” says Abdolreza Hosseinnejad, managing director of Petroleum Engineering & Development Company (Pedec), the state company in charge of buy-back projects.
