The shoot in the Sirte basin is taking place at the same time as a 3D survey at the Ghadames basin onshore, where BP is also looking for gas as part of its $2 billion package in 2007 to explore for gas for domestic use and for possible liquefaction for export.
The offshore survey is being carried out over 10 months by Norways's Wavefield Inseis, which has mobilised the Geowave Endeavour towing 10 streamer cables, each eight kilometres in length, and a support flotilla, in what BP calls one of the industry's most ambitious such shoots.
