President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is poised to rule Egypt for life, reversing one of the main achievements of the 2011 revolution that limited the presidential tenure to two terms.

Parliamentarians have approved sweeping measures to allow Sisi to extend his rule until 2034, entrenching his authoritarian grip on the Arab world’s most populous country. Constitutional amendments will also enshrine in law the military’s dominance over Egypt.
