Six groups wait on key Equus call from Hess

Six world-class groups of contractors are on a knife-edge as US ­independent Hess prepares to select two of them to compete for the principal contract related to the Equus deep-water gas project off Western Australia.

The six groups are Worley- Parsons-IntecSea with Hyundai Heavy Industries, Modec and Wood Group Mustang with Samsung Heavy Industries, KBR with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Saipem with Semb-Corp Marine, McDermott with Keppel Offshore & Marine, and SBM Offshore mounting a challenge but possibly on a sole basis, said sources.
