To produce slotted pipe, a pattern of very fine cuts is made right though the wall by a high pressure sand/water jet.
When the expansion force is applied this pipe opens up to a strong but highly transparent support framework, taking a shape not unlike the protective mesh offered on airport duty-free bottles.
Such a tube is ideal as the inner structural support for a sandscreen system, and that is where slotted tubulars have found their main application.
