The 15-year deal was signed with Norway's StatoilHydro, which will control 10 Bcm of import capacity at Cove Point after an expansion of the facility is completed next year.
"This agreement allows Sonatrach to reinforce and consolidate its position in the gas market of the Atlantic basin," said Chawki Mohamed Rahal, vice president of commercialisation at Sonatrach.
Sonatrach has previously secured downstream access in Italy, Spain and the UK.
