South Africa’s nascent shale gas sector has been thrown into turmoil after the country’s High Court found that the government did not follow legal procedure when putting in place hydraulic fracturing regulations in 2015.
The government may appeal the court’s decision, but if not, the regulations may have to be revised, resulting in further delays to approvals for shale gas exploration activities.
