According to observers, the opening ceremony was held last week both in Moscow and Tshinvale, in South Ossetia, with Putin witnessing Gazprom executive chairman Alexei Miller ordering the start of pumping from a Gazprom pipeline managing centre in Moscow.
In Tskhinvale, Gazprom's deputy executive chairman Aleksandr Ananekov said Gazprom had to invest more than $480 million in the 163-kilometre pipeline, which had to cross six mountain ridges on the way to South Ossetia.
