Speaking in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, Igga said Kiir’s resignation or power sharing with the rebels would simply spur more rebellions and “can never, ever happen”.

Igga said his government remained committed to ongoing regional peace talks held in Ethiopia under the auspices of the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Most observers received news last week of the breakthrough between Kiir and Riek Machar — who leads the rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in-Opposition — with cynicism and expect the truce to be shortlived.
