McDermott's shares dropped $2.34 -- more than 38% -- to close at $3.75 on 4 October, one day after the company revised its guidance for the full year of 2002 from a range of $3.50 to $3.60 loss per diluted share to a loss of about $4.50 per diluted share. By the Tuesday close, McDermott's stock had fallen to $3.20.
