UK supermajor BP is preparing to spud an important wildcat later this year on its huge Shafag-Asiman prospect in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea, writes Kama Mustafayeva.
The exploration well SAX-01 is expected to be spudded in the fourth quarter of 2019, according to Hendrik Jan de Jong, BP’s well superintendent for Shafag-Asiman.
The drilling operation is likely to last about 12 months, and potentially longer if well testing is required: “If we find hydrocarbons, (the well) will be tested and that will require approximately another 60 days,” said De Jong.
