Shell has been warned by the UK safety regulator over worries about the maintenance of emergency shutdown equipment at the supermajor’s St Fergus gas terminal in north-east Scotland.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) said in an Improvement Notice served on 23 November that Shell failed to take measures to prevent major accidents and limit their consequences.

HSE said Shell “failed to put in place adequate arrangements to ensure that emergency shutdown and emergency depressurisation valve actuators were being maintained properly and were in effective working order”.
