Staatsolie has begun operations on a long-anticipated nine-well nearshore drilling programme in Suriname.

The state-led producer contracted the Seadrill-owned jack-up rig West Castor for the campaign.

It also signed a logistics contract with Medserv International and a rig service contract with Halliburton.

Upstream previously reported that the drilling campaign is set to run into early 2020, with work in water depths of up to 30 metres.
