Standalone spar or FPSO on horizon at Trion

Pemex exploration and production director Carlos Morales Gil has confirmed that the Mexican state oil company is looking at the use of a standalone floating production unit in early studies on the potential development of the Trion oil discovery and other potential finds in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

The concept model that the Mexican state oil company is currently working with envisages using either a spar or floating production, storage and offloading vessel to develop discoveries in the Perdido fold-belt, Morales Gil said.

“We are considering these options,” Morales Gil said. “Both the FPSO and the spar are the two (main) possibilities that we have... they certainly have the most technical merit.”
