Many of the CBM field sites are on farming land and state law allows CBM players such as BG Group and Santos entry to private land because resources below ground are the property of the state.
However, community and landholder groups in Queensland have complained about unsafe upstream project operations.
In response, the state government has passed a package of reforms that will enable landholders to get more information about the CBM operations on their properties.
