NORWAY’S dominant oil company Statoil is facing controversy over allegations that it manipulated its risk-management standards in order to drill prospects taken over in 2007 from Norsk Hydro, including a well similar to BP’s ill-fated Macondo prospect.
In a shareholder resolution proposed for the 11 May annual general meeting, it is claimed that Statoil, after the takeover of Norsk Hydro’s oil division, “systematically eliminated or replaced” senior Statoil staff within risk management with former Norsk Hydro staff by creating a “destructive work environment”.
