Norwegian operator Statoil has received final clearance to start using the first of its custom-made Category J jack-up rigs.
The Askeladden rig arrived in Norway in September from Samsung Heavy Industries, and has since undergone preparations before heading offshore. It has now received the final approval for service by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority.
Askeladden and its sister vessel Askepott are due to be deployed at the Statoil-operated Oseberg and Gullfaks licences, which also own the rigs.
