The steerable drilling liner method, developed as a joint project between Statoil and Baker Hughes, has been tried out at the North Sea Brage platform and is due for another test at Statfjord next month.
The technique uses a steerable drill string with the casing attached, which makes it easier, faster and cheaper to drill in unstable formations, according to Statoil.
