A Norwegian court has upheld an injunction against Statoil that prevents the operator from using the cost-saving Cap-X subsea technology until a patent dispute is resolved.
After a hearing last week, the Stavanger district court found in favour of technology player NeoDrill, which claims Statoil’s use of the technology infringes on its patent rights. As a result, the operator will have to continue using conventional subsea equipment for its Barents Sea exploration campaign for now.
