Norway’s Statoil is set to dive into the ultra-deep waters of the Espirito Santo basin next year, as it prepares an eight-well wildcatting programme in search of new hydrocarbons off Brazil.
Upstream understands that Statoil will spud two wells each on blocks ES-M-598, ES-M-671, ES-M-673 and ES-M-743.
The idea is to split the campaign by targeting four post-salt prospects at depths close to 5400 metres, and four pre-salt targets with drilling approaching 9000 metres.
