Known as Smubs, this unit started up in 1994, eight years after Framo's first test work for Shell. Sitting in 270 metres of water, it was powered by water turbine rather than electricity, tapping into the flow of the field's water injection circuit.

The first truly commercial application of the Framo pump came three years later, and still remains a convincing trail-blazer for the technique.
