The offer was made at about the same time as Torch filed for bankruptcy in New Orleans on 7 January, according to an informed source.
Stolt, in an apparent attempt to sweeten the bid, also extended an invitation to operate the vessel as part of a joint venture with Torch. The negotiations failed, the source claimed. Torch official Bradley Lowe declined to comment.
