Construction of the Bassoe Technology BT-UDS design drillship will take place at STX Jinhae yard in South Korea.
The newbuild contract also carries the options for four more drillships. The first will be due to be exercised within 12 months from the contract award, followed by the three other options in staggered phases across the next 18 months.
The Sigma drillship contract also includes an option to upgrade its two blow-out preventers to 20,000-psi stacks from the current 15,000-psi BOPs featured in the initial BT-UDS design.
