Sources said the European subsea specialist recently signed a letter of intent with CNOOC for the job, which will involve installing a subsea pipeline, two pipeline end terminations and other facilities.
Subsea 7 beat rival Global Industries in the race. Italian contractor Saipem did not participate.
Operator CNOOC is targeting first oil in the second half of 2013, about a year behind the original schedule.
