Swan Hills Synfuels and the Alberta government have agreed to discontinue their C$285 million (US$278 million) agreement because the former said low natural gas prices keep pushing the project’s timeline back beyond funding requirements.

Swan Hills chief executive Martin Lambert said: “At present, it’s more economical to purchase natural gas than it is to manufacture synthetic gas. It’s a market, really, that has led to significant delays on the CCS side of the project.”
