Syncrude Canada could return to operations by early May after an upgrader fire forced a shutdown and pushed up the timeline for a maintenance turnaround, writes Tonya Zelinsky.
Production at the 350,000 barrels day oil sands project in Northern Alberta was curtailed in mid-March when an explosion occurred inside a hydrotreater at one of its two upgraders. The fire is believed to have been caused by a line failure of treated naphtha.
