The study will be based on a proposal made last year by Saipem, Snamprogetti's sister company within the Eni Group, for a 2000-kilometre line from Bandar Assaluyeh, the onshore treatment centre for the South Pars offshore gas field, to Okha in the Indian state of Gujarat. One or two 24-inch pipelines would run along the Iranian coast to the border with Pakistan with the rest running under the Sea of Arabia at depths of up to 3000 metres.
