Malaysian operator Tamarind Resources is preparing to start a development drilling programme in its Tui Area oil project off New Zealand, and is eyeing a potential exploration well next year, writes Russell Searancke.

The sixth-generation semi-submersible COSL Prospector is en route to New Zealand with its first assignment at Tui due to start before the end of June 2019.

Tamarind plans to drill three sidetrack development wells over a 110-day period, with an option for a fourth well, to capture between six and eight million barrels of incremental oil.
