“We believe there is petroleum in Lake Tanganyika and this MoU is designed to allow us to exchange experiences in exploration and exploitation of petroleum,” said DRC President Joseph Kabila. In 2011, Tanzania awarded a block on the northern side of Lake Tanganyika to Total, which will shortly lead construction of a $3.5 billion pipeline routing Ugandan crude from Hoima to the Tanzanian port of Tanga for export.
Tanzania and DRC to explore Lake Tanganyika
TANZANIA and the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have signed a memorandum of understanding for the joint exploration and development of oil and gas in Lake Tanganyika, which is also bordered by Burundi and Zambia.
