French engineering outfit Technip and subsea specialist FMC Technologies this week unveiled a new joint venture that they claim can achieve a 30% reduction in their deep-water development costs by getting both producers and installers of subsea infrastructure involved in front-end engineering and design.

The chief executives of the two companies are convinced that daring changes are necessary to confront the challenge of spiraling deep-water development costs, leading to the move this week to launch Forsys Subsea, they said in an interview with Upstream.
