Technip’s newest deep-water construction vessel Deep Energy is preparing to share the load with the French contractor’s flagship Deep Blue as both vessels mobilise for several pipelay projects in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico. Deep Energy, the latest pipelay vessel to enter Technip’s fleet, is undergoing sea trials in the US Gulf after arriving about a month ago. According to David Dickson, the former senior vice president of Technip who left the company on 17 October, Deep Energy is laying a “stalk” of pipe in deep-water as part of the process to commission the pipelay equipment. Once commissioning is complete — expected within the next few week — it will mobilise for its first subsea installation job in the US Gulf.
Technip has not specified which job will be carried out first. Meanwhile, Deep Blue has departed Mobile with a reel loaded with pipe for Chevron’s Jack and St Malo field development in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico.
The vessel left Technip’s Mobile spoolbase in nearby Theodore, Alabama, on 16 October. It is expected to return to Mobile for a fourth and final load of pipe sometime in November.
