TEXACO has quit the controversial Global Climate Coalition, the US industry group that opposes the Kyoto protocol's approach to combating global warming. The US oil company said it was leaving because it wanted to speak for itself on the issues through other broader-based organisations rather than because of any fundamental differences of opinion. In a letter to GCC executive director Glenn Kelly, Texaco said as a global company it recognises that the debate over climate change goes well beyond the matter of the US economy.
