The company bid $1.7 million, or $900 per acre, for a 1963-acre parcel located in eastern Utah's Uintah County.
HEC's senior vice president of onshore, Steve Mueller, said that this parcel was particularly attractive because of its proximity to the company's current acreage.
He added that because a new pipeline planned by Denver-based Westport Resources will eventually cross the property.
HEC also submitted winning bids on two smaller parcels during the sale.
