Producers are flooding older reservoirs in Texas with carbon dioxide to increase output and reap the financial benefits of high oil prices.

“It is a commodity,” said Patterson. “It has value. We think we can collect royalties on carbon dioxide”

There are no estimates as to how much cash the state could raise from levying a royalty on carbon dioxide.
