Existing production in the southern Austral basin already fills the Transportadora Gas del Sur-owned San Martin pipeline to capacity, with looping complete. So far, this has left Argentina's most important gas discovery stranded.
The TotalFinaElf-operated Austral Marine-1 (CAM-1) block has gas reserves estimated at 5 trillion cubic feet, representing about half of the undeveloped gas reserves in Argentina. By the far the most important field in this complex is Carina with satellite fields including Aries and Vega-Pleyade.
